Nightbird Culls

The Nightbird Culls was a submission piece into the 2025 Art Expo. The piece is inspired by the literature and art style of children's books. Stories that take place in the middle of the night, such as, "Where the Wild Things Are" and "The Night Gardener", have always fascinated me. I wanted to create a piece that captured the eerie yet whimsical atmosphere of these stories. The piece depicts a group of nightbirds, which are mythical creatures that are said to come out at night to cull the darkness. The nightbirds are depicted as large, owl-like creatures with glowing eyes and sharp talons. The piece is meant to evoke a sense of wonder and curiosity, while also hinting at the darker themes that are often present in children's literature.
